Revenue grows 16% to ₹1,367 crore; operational efficiencies and seed repurposing drive record performance

The National Seeds Corporation (NSC), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Agriculture, has posted a 51% surge in net profit to ₹110 crore for the financial year 2024–25 (FY25), compared to ₹73.64 crore in the previous fiscal.
The company’s total revenue from all operations rose 15.6% to ₹1,367.43 crore, up from ₹1,182.48 crore in FY24. Of this, ₹1,340.98 crore came from seed sales, according to figures released by the Agriculture Ministry.
With a steady rise in profitability, NSC — a ‘B’ Mini Ratna Category-I company — is likely to declare a record dividend of about ₹39 crore for FY25, assuming it maintains last year’s payout level of 5% of net worth, when the dividend stood at ₹35 crore.
Operational Efficiency Boosts Margins
Explaining the sharp improvement in profits despite a modest rise in turnover, Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, Chairperson and Managing Director of NSC, said that enhanced operational efficiency and strategic cost management were key drivers.
“We improved efficiencies across operations, resulting in lower expenditure,” Dwivedi said. She added that NSC rationalised its seed inventory by disposing of old, non-viable seed stock—some accumulated since 2016—thereby reducing storage costs and generating additional income through innovative repurposing.
From Seeds to Food Products
To optimise asset value, the company transformed unsold or ageing seed stock into consumable products.
Unsold Basmati seeds were processed into Basmati rice and sold through online retail channels.
Mustard seeds were converted into edible oils and marketed in consumer packs.“These measures not only improved revenue realisation but also prevented wastage,” Dwivedi noted.
Expanding Reach Across India
Following directions from Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan earlier this week, NSC is preparing to expand its dealer and distribution network to ensure a presence in all districts across the country.
Currently, the corporation operates in 550 districts, primarily through its dealer network, and has also partnered with over 2,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) as seed distributors.
NSC’s net worth rose to ₹774.11 crore in FY25, up from ₹706.08 crore in FY24, reflecting its improved financial strength and operational sustainability.
