Six new processing units to enhance quality seed supply; ‘Seed Management 2.0’ initiative unveiled
October 28, 2025 | New Delhi
Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday inaugurated the National Seeds Corporation’s (NSC) new vegetable and flower seed processing and packaging unit at the Pusa Complex in New Delhi.
The Minister also virtually inaugurated five additional NSC seed processing plants located in Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), Dharwad and Hassan (Karnataka), Suratgarh (Rajasthan), and Raichur (Karnataka) — marking a major expansion in India’s seed processing infrastructure.
Boost to Quality Seed Supply
The newly inaugurated Pusa facility has a processing capacity of one tonne per hour, while each of the other five plants can process up to four tonnes per hour. These units are expected to significantly strengthen NSC’s capacity to deliver high-quality, certified seeds to farmers across the country.
“The government is committed to ensuring that quality seeds reach small and marginal farmers, as this is the foundation for higher productivity and profitability,” Chouhan said at the event.
He commended NSC’s efforts to enhance seed production standards and distribution efficiency, adding that such facilities will help “build a strong and reliable seed supply network” for Indian agriculture.
Launch of ‘Seed Management 2.0’ and Online Booking Platform
During the ceremony, the Minister also launched ‘Seed Management 2.0’—a digital initiative to streamline seed production, certification, and distribution processes.
In addition, he unveiled an online seed booking platform that will allow farmers to order seeds directly from NSC with greater transparency and ease of access. The platform is designed to reduce middlemen involvement and ensure timely delivery of quality inputs to growers.
Tackling Fake and Substandard Seeds
Chouhan emphasized the government’s commitment to curbing the sale of fake and substandard seeds, a recurring concern among farmers raised during the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ outreach programme.
“The Agriculture Ministry is implementing strict measures to eliminate counterfeit seed sales, protecting farmers from losses and ensuring trust in the supply chain,” he said.
Event Attendees
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary (Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare); Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, CMD and Additional Secretary, NSC; Ajit Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary; and senior officials from NSC and the Ministry of Agriculture.
