WHO IS THE FATHER OF INDIAN AGRICULTURE ?

 

The Father of the Green Revolution in India and often called the Father of Agriculture in India is Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, a renowned agronomist and geneticist celebrated for his pivotal role in developing high-yielding crop varieties (like wheat and rice) that saved millions from famine and made India food-secure in the 1960s and 70s, promoting sustainable farming for the future. 


Key Contributions:

Green Revolution: He introduced Mexican semi-dwarf wheat varieties to India, dramatically increasing food production and transforming India from food-deficient to self-sufficient.

"Evergreen Revolution": He championed sustainable practices to ensure agriculture could withstand climate change and feed a growing population.

Visionary Leadership: Served as Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).
