It deals with frquency of genes and genotypes in a mendelian population.
Mendelian population have two important features , viz
1) Random mating
2) Equal survival of genotypes
Main Features are
1) It is branch of biometrical genetics. It involves mathematical procedures.
2) It deals with oligogenic variation or discontinuous variation.
3) Its estimates are based on frequencies and ratio.
4) It cant be used for analysis of polygenic variation.
5) Hardy and Weinberg laid the foundation of population genetics in 1908.
