Cuttack, August  2026: The ICAR–Central Rice Research Institute (ICAR-CRRI), Cuttack, organised a plantation drive on August 12, 2026, as part of the nationwide Hariyali Amavasya Campaign under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Scientists, technical and administrative staff, and students of the institute participated in the virtual national address by Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. The address emphasised ecological responsibility, climate change mitigation and the role of individuals in increasing the country's green cover.

Plantation Drive at Institute Premises

The plantation programme was conducted near the Genomics Building premises and Gulguli Ecotourism site. Saplings of indigenous and environmentally beneficial species were planted by the Director, Heads of Divisions, Head of Administration & Finance, along with other staff members and students.

The initiative was aimed at increasing the institute's green cover while creating greater awareness about afforestation, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and sustainable environmental practices.

Participants were also encouraged to take responsibility for nurturing and maintaining the planted saplings to ensure their healthy growth and survival.

Promoting Environmental Responsibility

The campaign reinforced the message of caring for nature with the same affection and responsibility associated with caring for one's mother. ICAR-CRRI encouraged its employees to undertake plantation activities not only on the institute campus but also at their homes and native villages.

The initiative highlighted the importance of collective participation in protecting and nurturing trees and strengthening environmental sustainability at the community level.

The plantation drive reaffirmed ICAR-CRRI's continued commitment to building a greener, healthier and more sustainable environment for future generations.
