Cropping System Description
Mono cropping Growing of only one crop on a piece of land year after year.
Multiple cropping Growing two or more crops on the same piece of land in one calendar year.
Inter-cropping Growing two or more crops simultaneously with definite row arrangement.
Sequential cropping Growing two or more crops in sequence on the same piece of land in a farming year.
Cropping intensity Ratio between gross sown area and net sown area.
(Gross Sown Area / Net Sown Area) × 100
Zaid cropping Growing of crops in between Kharif and Rabi season.
Jhum / Shifting cultivation Slash and burn type of cultivation practiced in the hill tracts of North Eastern Region.
Catch crop Quick growing crop planted and harvested between two major crops to utilize residual fertilizer.
Cover crop Crops grown primarily to cover soil and reduce moisture loss and erosion.
Multi-storey cropping System of growing crops of different heights together on the same land at the same time (e.g. Coconut + Pepper + Cocoa + Pineapple).
